The Family Liaison Co-ordinator (FLC) manages the deployments of Family Liaison Officers (FLOs) and Family Liaison Advisors (FLAs) within a service and are responsible for providing or arranging support, guidance and development opportunities for the family liaison community.
- Co-ordinate the day-to-day management of Family Liaison Advisor (FLA) and Family Liaison Officer (FLO) deployments to ensure an appropriate response to incidents of homicide, mass disaster and roads policing fatalities.
- Provide a point of contact for FLOs to enable them to access specialised advice and guidance from the family liaison community, enabling the sharing of best practice to support ongoing responses.
- Maintain a register of contact details of appropriate organisations, lay people and professional consultants to assist FLOs in their work with families.
- Co-ordinate FLO peer support and ensure that FLOs receive or have access to welfare and occupational support and advice to mitigate the emotional demands of their work.
- Provide an independent channel for FLO debriefing to identify and share good practice.
- Liaise regionally and nationally to gather and share best practice for implementation within own force area to drive continuous improvement.
- Co-ordinate Continuing Professional Development (CPD) events in line with training needs and national guidance to maintain and enhance the competency of FLOs and FLAs.
